Two special projects in the areas of food mineral reduction and creatine reduction have generated three educational self-help publications, entitled: "Food - Fuel - Fitness; Healthy Living with Food Demineralization, 2nd edition", "Healthy Living with Demineralization" (first edition) – both guide books for those who must reduce their mineral intake, ESRD individual, and professionals alike. These user-friendly books show how to effectively remove excess minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, and sodium, from food. Food – Fuel – Fitness offers the reader a genuine opportunity to positively impact their nutritional profile and health, with easy to follow instructions and exciting recipe "starter" ideas. The third book, "More Bio-fuel – Less Bio-waste" is a creatine reduction - easy to read and follow - guide book, designed to positively impact serum creatinine (JRN, 2001).
The results from a multi-center Omega-3 pilot study run by Royal Knight Research (published in JANA, 2002) demonstrated that a significant increase in hemoglobin, albumin and residual renal function, along with decisive reductions in inflammatory factors and erythropoietin requirements, could be achieved with a special emulsified Omega-3 fatty acid preparation.
Royal Knight Research actively seeks grants from industry to fund a variety of ongoing research in the areas of ESRD food demineralization and demineralization education for those desiring to learn these simple self-help techniques. Teaching seminars and presentations are and can be sponsored through local groups, industry, and healthcare companies.
Today, more then 20 million Americans and over 200 million worldwide, are afflicted with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), at least 40% of whom are diabetics

Food – Fuel – Fitness, Healthy Living with Food Demineralization, 2nd Edition,
was designed to fit a broader global audience of individuals who must, for the sake of their health, control the amounts of sodium, potassium, and phosphorus in their diets.
Updated with a larger selection of foods and a new user-friendly format, FOOD - FUEL - FITNESS affords the individual greater variety in their eating lifestyle.
Traditionally, those with failing kidneys are told to severely restrict the numbers and the amounts of foods containing substantial amounts of sodium, potassium and/or phosphorus in attempts to avert potentially life-threatening mineral imbalances. Such restrictions often lead to a chronic state of malnutrition, anemia, and weight loss.

"More than 350,000 in the U.S. and one million globally have already been forced into an endless cycle of dialysis just to stay alive."
The first edition of the food mineral reduction series is entitled:
Healthy Living With Demineralization: food demineralization
instructions for people with kidney impairment.
The instructions for food mineral reduction were evaluate in a small cross-country study with ESRD patients.
The study, funded in part through an American Dietetic Association – Renal Practice Group grant,
looked at the acceptance and success of practicing at-home food mineral reduction.
Study results showed that 92% of participants were able to achieved measurable mineral reduction
through the use of this self-help food preparation guide.
Healthy Living With Demineralization (first edition) assisted those who wanted to take an active role in their healthcare
by showing that many foods thought to be "taboo" could be mineral reduced
and included in their mineral-reduced eating plan.

"Excessive serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine – the metabolic "waste" product of creatine
(creatine is a natural component, primarily of meat),
contributes to the vicious cycle of nausea, vomiting, anorexia and diminished quality of life
experienced by both kidney patients, and the more than 1.5 million who are approaching renal failure."

More Bio-fuel – Less Bio-waste is a creatine reduction dietary guide book
designed to positively impact serum creatinine.
The consumer friendly techniques for creatine removal from food,
presented in 14-point font, are well detailed and easy to follow.
In the writing of this book, special attention was given to taste and quality of the final product.
By applying the simple techniques outlined in this book, persons with renal impairment should,
by working closely with members of their healthcare team,
be able to regain the dietary flexibility they had lost,
without adding to their waste product body burden.

BIO-LOC3
BIO-LOC3 is a unique nutritional supplement. This supplement has been specially formulated to aid in reducing general inflammatory factors, and provide the bio-boost needed to those experiencing a general protein/nutritional deficits -- conditions routinely found in individuals who are experiencing a general illness, those with renal insufficiency, or renal failure.
For those preparing to, or currently receiving, dialysis for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), profound anemia, low serum albumin, malnutrition, and chronically elevated inflammatory factors are universal problems. This perpetual condition places further physiological stress on an overburdened system.
BIO-LOC3 was tested in a small 90-day pilot study where its ability to correct low levels serum albumin, and significantly reduce C-reactive protein - a clinical marker of inflammation - was evaluated. The study results showed a rapid and sustainable increase in blood serum albumin. Pre- and post- supplementation serum albumin means were, 3.66 g/dL and 4.23 g/dL, respectively. In addition, concomitant observations were made concerning increases in hemoglobin/hematocrit effectively reducing the need for supplemental Erythropoietin. An unexplained increase in urine output as well as participant’s subjective observations: "increased energy", and "ability to do more", were also recorded.
BIO-LOC3 is currently in the final stages of pre-marketing preparation.

ORATOX-Sorb
*Phase III Development*
Royal Knight Research is working to develop more effective oral "toxin" removal compounds (oral sorbents) and an optimal administration protocol. This work is intended as a 'bridge' measure -- extending the post-dialysis metabolic-toxin reduced period for several days, instead of only hours.
In ESRD individuals with a modest to moderately elevated internal toxin level, these special sorbents are expected to eliminate the need for at least one dialysis session per week, allowing a significant gap between the administration of heparin and other known pro-inflammatory drugs or procedures. On a whole, the creation of a toxin/dialysis 'gap' is expected to have a positive, systemic trickle-down effect.
In 2004, the in-vivo testing of several unique sorbent formulas -- identified for their ability to reduce the markers of renal failure (BUN and creatinine), in-vitro, began in human volunteers. At present -- several experimental formulas have positively impacted the target ESRD markers (in-vivo) for more than 9 months, allowing an (elderly) ESRD individual, with severely decreased renal capacity, to reduce the number of dialysis days (from three) to two per week.
*BREAKING NEWS* In 2007, an ESRD individual (previously on 3X weekly dialysis) was able to maintain a low creatinine level, during a brief test period, with an agressive use of Royal Knight's new test ORATOX-Sorb combo and 1X dialysis per week.
Tests are on-going.

In addition, as part of the overall sorbent -'gap' protocol, Royal Knight Research is working to develop/discover one or more substances which are intended to encourage re-vascularization/repair of the damaged renal organs.
A few potential candidates have been identified and incorporated into the overall protocol. Blood tests taken in conjunction with preliminary ultrasound measurements has shown that at least one of the test materials was capable of causing an increase in the pole-to-pole measurements of an ESRD patients renal organs.
Tests are on-going.
